Originally published as La Fin de Lucie Pellegrin, in serial form, in Le Réveil littéraire et artistique, in 1875, and here presented for the first time in English, in a translation by Richard Robinson, The End of Lucie Pellegrin is one of the earliest works of Paul Alexis, one of the foremost disciples of Émile Zola.

About the Author
Paul Alexis (1847–1901) was a Naturalist writer of short stories, novels and plays, and was one of the chief disciples of Émile Zola, as well as his biographer. An early admirer of Impressionist art, he was a friend and collector of numerous important painters, including Renoir, Cezanne, and Van Gogh. His works of fiction include L’Infortune de monsieur Fraque (1897), L’Éducation amoureuse (1890), and Madame Meuriot (1901).

About the Translator
Richard Robinson has done numerous translations over the years, both to and from English, including Georges Bataille’s The Trial of Gilles de Rais (Amok Books, 1990), and Léon Bloy’s The Desperate Man (Snuggly Books, 2020). He holds a bachelor’s degree from the California State University.
