Though principally remembered today as the founder of the “Grand Guignol”, the famous theater of horror, Oscar Méténier (1859-1913) was also a prolific writer of fiction. The current book, the first to be offered in English, brings together three of Méténier’ s pieces, translated by Daniel Corrick, including Decadence, which was first published in 1886 and was dedicated to Rachilde.

About the Author
Oscar Méténier(1859–1913), the son of a commissaire de police, was a French playwright and novelist. In 1897 he founded the Grand-Guignol theater in Paris, which became renowned for its shocking stage presentations. His works include the novel Zézette (1891), the one-act play Lui! (1897), and the novel Curaçao-Roi which he collaborated on with Delphi Fabrice.

About the Translator
Daniel Corrick is an editor, philosopher and writer. From 2010 to 2014 he ran Hieroglyphic Press and edited the journal Sacrum Regnum. He has published essays on various nineteenth-century figures including Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Gabriele d’Annunzio and Arthur Machen, as well as contributing articles on philosophy of religion topics to the Ontological Investigations blog. He co-edited Drowning in Beauty: The Neo-Decadent Anthology , (Snuggly Books, 2018).
